AmeriCorps in Alabama
Alabama currently has six
AmeriCorps*State programs which are located in various locations
across the state. The programs are monitored by the Governor’s
Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. AmeriCorps,
termed the domestic Peace Corps, the programs focus on mentoring
& tutoring students of all ages, providing a safe place for
students after school and during the summer, bridging the
digital divide in rural areas, and emergency preparedness and
response.
There is an advantage for
the AmeriCorps members as well as the communities in which they
serve. Members of AmeriCorps receive real-life education and
service experience wrapped up into one. They learn teamwork,
effective communication, leadership, responsibility and more.
Members experience the satisfaction of taking on challenges and
seeing positive results. AmeriCorps members have the experience
of a lifetime getting things done for their community.
