On any given day in Alabama there are 6,025* homeless people. Of them:

  • 1,638 are unsheltered
  • 1,328 are chronically homeless
  • 527 are veterans
  • 1,453 are dealing with substance abuse
  • 448 are victims of domestic violence

You are more likely to become homeless if you are:

  • Lacking job skills
  • Mentally ill
  • Medically impaired
  • Lacking education
  • A victim of domestic violence
  • A victim of child abuse
  • A victim of sexual assault
  • Addicted to drugs or alcohol
  • Black
  • A female veteran
  • A transient worker
  • A single parent
