What is your organization’s goal at this site?

SaveFirst is a free, IRS-certified tax preparation initiative offered to working families across the state. SaveFirst engages and trains college volunteers under the coordination of AmeriCorps members to provide high-quality services to combat predatory tax preparation and ensure that families are able to have their taxes done correctly and fairly.

What is something exciting that has happened at this site?

It is always exciting when people realize that they get to keep their full refund instead of having to use part of it to pay a tax preparer. Most people already know exactly what they want to use their refund for and are excited to tell us about it, whether it is buying an instrument so their child can join the high school band, paying off car or medical bills, or even sending their kid to space camp.
