Member Spotlight: Jasimine Montgomery
Meet Jasimine Montgomery, she serves with Birmingham Engaging in STEM AmeriCorps-BETA.
What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? What motivated me to join AmeriCorps was that each member gives back to their community in their own unique way. I thought to myself that it was time for me to give back to my community by being a mentor and a role model to the children in my community.
What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I would like to have a positive experience with the students or with anybody I come in contact with through AmeriCorps. I would like my service to be rewarding not just for me but the students that I tutor each day and the service projects that I participate in throughout my service.
What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? I will focus on the students that I tutor and the tasks at hand while I am serving. I will also stay focused on becoming the best member that I can be this year in AmeriCorps.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps? I plan on continuing the pursuit of my degree in Elementary Education and becoming a future educator. I want to teach the children in my community and show them that it is important to receive an education. I also want to show them that there is more to life than what they see. The sky is the limit and they can achieve anything with hard work and focus.
