Member Spotlight: Ariel Hughes, Programs Coordinator
Meet Ariel Hughes, she serves with the Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.
What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? One day I was just searching for a job online and I came across this AmeriCorps position. I didn’t exactly know what AmeriCorps was so I started doing my research on everything that I may need to know before applying. Once I learned that it was going into the community and serving others, which I enjoy doing, I knew this was the right position for me.
What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I hope to gain lifelong friends from this opportunity, and to be able to make as many connections as possible. Learning the ropes of the Community Food Bank, I hope that I learn something new each and every day that I can use after this service opportunity ends.
What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? I serve as the Programs Coordinator to help with the day to day tasks of making sure programs are running smoothly throughout the schools we partner with. I also serve with the Volunteer Coordinator at times to help out with the many volunteer groups that visit the Community Food Bank.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My plans after AmeriCorps are to travel and see the world for about a year. I love to travel to new places and see exactly what's out there that I’ve never seen before. After that, I plan to achieve my Master’s Degree and then apply to optometry school at The University of Alabama of Birmingham.
Thank you for your service Ariel!
