Member Spotlight: LaQuanda Smith, Instructional Aide

Meet LaQuanda Smith, she serves with the AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team at the McKenzie School.

What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I joined AmeriCorps because I love to give back to my community. I have a passion for working with children because I believe everyone should be given a wonderful opportunity at life.

What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I would like to gain from this opportunity the essential tools that would be needed to get through life’s everyday challenges.

What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? Providing direct support to economically disadvantaged students in order to improve performance literacy and math as measured by standardized tests to improve academic performance.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My plan after AmeriCorps is to continue to further my education. I want to be able to help my community as much as possible.
