Member Spotlight: Victoria McLean, Domestic Violence Victim Liaison Specialist
Meet Victoria McLean with the Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program with the YWCA Domestic Violence Services.
What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I wanted to have a productive Gap year before applying to law school. I also wanted to do something meaningful and give back to the community of Birmingham. Birmingham is such a beautiful city, with such beautiful people and I truly am lucky to be here.
What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I would like to grow more professionally and get more experience in the legal field. I would also like to have fun and truly enjoy this year. I love the joy that I feel, when I see the strength in these women when they are granted legal assistance.
What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? My service site focuses on providing legal representation to people in domestic violence relationships. We provide aid to those who can’t afford lawyers in their PFA, Divorce, Custody and Paternity cases.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps? I plan to attend law school. I would like to go into family law.
Thank you for your service Victoria!
