Member Spotlight: Margaret Cartner, Program Coordinator
Meet Margaret Cartner, she serves with the Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program at Junior Achievement.
What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I wanted to learn about the non-profit sector and benefit my community. I am from Birmingham, so the choice to serve here was an easy one. I knew that I would learn a ton and gain valuable experience.
What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I would like to learn how to work efficiently in an office setting, make personal connections with those with whom I am work and feel as if my community is better because of my contribution. Furthermore, I would like to know what it feels like to have dedicated a significant portion of my time strictly to service.
What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? I will be heading the High School Heroes Program at Junior Achievement. So my responsibility will be getting high schools and elementary schools coordinated so the high school students can teach our elementary school curriculum to students in their area.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps? I plan to return to school to get my MBA and hopefully enter the socially conscious business sector to begin using the economy to benefit those in need rather than take advantage of them.
Thank you for your service Margaret!
