Member Spotlight: Jade Lee, Program Specialist
Meet Jade Lee. Jade serves with the Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program
with the Collaborative for Education.
What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I was an AmeriCorps Vista last year and the experience and knowledge I gained from servicing really gave me the desire to serve as an AmeriCorps member. Also, the service site I am at this year is in line with the career field I am going into.
What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I would like more experience in the school setting to hone the talents and skills I have already acquired and to learn more skills. Also, I want to learn under people who are in the positions I will one day be in, and simply because I love helping others.
What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? The focus I have for the present service year is increasing social and emotional learning through my service site and into the communities we serve. Also, to empower those in positions of authority and leadership to create a safe, creative, and productive environment in schools and in the community.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My plans after AmeriCorps are to complete graduate school and all the necessary licenses in becoming a School Counselor. I also want to travel Europe and Asia through the Peace Corp or an English teaching program, like the ELIC.
Thank you for your service Jade!
