Member Spotlight: Latoria Howard, Instructional Assistant
Meet Latoria Howard, she serves with the AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team at W.O. Parmer Elementary
What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because you get to help a child improve and progress in ways that have a major impact on their future. I also wanted to be able to see a child’s smile knowing you have made a wonderful impact on them.
What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I would like to get experience with helping a child and helping that child understand the importance of education out of this service opportunity as well.
What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? Providing direct support to economically disadvantaged children in grades K-2 in order to improve performance in literacy and math as measured performance in literacy and math as measured by pre-and post-standardized tests to demonstrate improved academic performance.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My plans after AmeriCorps will be to finish my degree at LBW. Also, I plan to start working on my Nursing (RN) degree to help better my own future opportunities. I also plan to continue to volunteer working with children in any way that I can.
Thank you for your service Latoria!
