Member Spotlight: Lavaras Peagler, Instructional Assistant
Meet Lavaras Peagler. Lavaras serves with the AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team at W.O. Parmer Elementary.
What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? The motivation to join AmeriCorps came from me wanting to be a positive male role model to younger students in the community. Being a young male role model is important for those students who don’t have one in their everyday life.
What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? At the end of this service opportunity I would like to have made a positive impact on students in the school system.
What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? The service focus will be providing direct support to economically disadvantaged students in grades K-2nd in order to improve performance in literacy and math set forth by the State Education Department.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps? Plans after service are to enter the teaching field to continue working with young students in the most positive way.
Thank you for your service Lavaras!
