Member Spotlight: Charity Elliot, Instructional Assistant
Meet Charity Elliot, she serves with the AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team at Greenville High School.
What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because giving back was something that my parents instilled in me. We were always taught to help when and where we could. So, when I became burned out in my career, AmeriCorps seemed like a great fit and decision as it afford me the opportunity to still be an active part of the community.
What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? The most important thing I would like to get out of this opportunity is knowing I was able to make a positive impact in the life of a child and parent. I would like to help a child become self-confident and a parent become a confident advocate for their child’s educational process; thus, ensuring the positive impact they could have on their community.
What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? My service focus will be providing direct support to economically disadvantage students in order to improve performance in core academic subjects as measured by pre- and post- standardized tests to demonstrate improved academic performance.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My plans after service are to continue being an active member in the community to include volunteering in the local schools and participating in various food pantry drives. Career wise, I hope to enter the field of education in some capacity.
Thank you for your service Charity!
