Member Spotlight: Sarah Hogan, Baykeeper AmeriCorps Volunteer Engagement (Baykeeper AVE) member
Meet Sarah Hogan, serving with Mobile Baykeeper as part of the Baykeeper AmeriCorps Volunteer Engagement program.
What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I was primarily motivated to join AmeriCorps because of their active involvement in environmental protection and preservation within my community. My dream is to work for an organization that gives back, and I feel the AmeriCorps encompasses this through their collaboration with Mobile Baykeepers.
What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? What I hope to gain from this program is to learn more about what it takes to motivate a large group of people all working towards the goal of bettering their environment. Another gain is I would be able to see and understand what a functioning environmental protection program looks like, and meeting the individuals who make it a success.
What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? Much of my focus will be around volunteer coordination, management, and maintaining volunteer retention. Some more detailed outlines would be to encourage membership and volunteering, and to raise awareness of the water level.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My primary objective is to continue my education and work towards my bachelor’s degree, while continuing to apply for internships and volunteer opportunities in Mobile. After I complete college, I plan on looking for work in environmental organizations.
Thank you for your service Sarah!
