Meet Raymond Childers, serving with the Birmingham Engaging in STEM AmeriCorps program (BETA) at Huffman Academy in the Birmingham City School System.
What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I wanted to be a positive influence. When I heard that I would be serving in an educational environment tutoring students in math, I felt this was the opportunity of a lifetime to make a positive impact on the students I serve.
What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I want to be able to positively impact the students I serve so they can achieve their full potential. I also want to gain some experience serving in the Birmingham City School System.
What will your service focus on for the 2018-2019 program year? During this service year, my focus is to assist students in the area of math. I want to instill in them that with hard work and determination, they can overcome any obstacle they will face in life. I want all of these students to excel and become all they desire to be.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps? After AmeriCorps, I want to go to college and earn my degree. I want to become an Electrician and continue to work to further assist my community.
Thank you for your service Raymond!
