Member Spotlight: Arlyric Posey, AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team Member

Meet Arlyric Posey, currently serving at W.O. Parmer Elementary School, in the AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team.

1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I joined the AmeriCorps team to make a positive impact on our young generation of kids. I joined to help show the kids a positive way to live rather than a negative way. I also joined AmeriCorps to help fund my schooling.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I’m going to develop skills to get my point across in a way that the kids will understand. I also want to have a huge positive impression on the children at my site. Once you have been around the children and interacted with them, you will develop a bond with them; that bond is special and children always remember.

3. What will your service focus on for the 2019-2020 program year? I will be providing direct support to economically disadvantaged children in grades K-2 in order to improve performance in literacy and/or math as measured by pre- and post- standardized tests to demonstrate improved academic performance.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My plans are to use this program to assist me with my schooling. I plan to be a teacher in Early Childhood K-6. This opportunity gives me that first step. I recommend AmeriCorps to any who has an urge to work with children or anyone who is taking up the profession to be with kids, such as teachers etc.

Thank you for your service, Arlyric!
