Member Spotlight: Mya Maye, AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team Member
Meet Mya Maye, currently serving at Greenville Elementary School, in the AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team.
1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? What motivated me to join AmeriCorps is I absolutely love working with kids. I love to watch the kids go from not knowing how to do something to knowing how to do it. I want the kids to say, “Ms. Mya taught me this!"
2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? What I would like to get out of this service opportunity is remembrance. I want the kids to remember me as a caring, loving person, who was always there to help them with their education. I want the ultimate thought to be that the children also taught me how not to give up on them.
3. What will your service focus on for the 2019-2020 program year? I will be providing direct support to economically disadvantaged students in order to improve performance in literacy and/or math as measured by pre- and post-standardized tests to demonstrate improved academic performance.
4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My plans after AmeriCorps are to become an Assistant Physical Therapist and when I receive that I will continue to work on getting my RN. I will work to become a Labor and Delivery Nurse.
Thank you for your service, Mya!
