Member Spotlight: Zakiya Lewis, AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team Member

Meet Zakiya Lewis, currently serving at Greenville Middle School, in the AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team.

1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I was motivated because I knew joining AmeriCorps would open doors for me and give me a feeling of what it's like to work in the school system.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I want to get professional experience. I would like to learn the pros and cons of how the school system works.

3. What will your service focus on for the 2019-2020 program year? I will be providing direct support to economically disadvantaged students in order to improve performance in literacy and/or math as measured by pre-and- post standardized test to demonstrate improved academic performance.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My plan after AmeriCorps is to be a school counselor.
