Member Spotlight: McKenna Killets, Building Communities, Bettering Lives Member
Meet McKenna Killets, currently serving as Program Coordinator with the College Admissions Made Possible, a partnering agency of the Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program.
1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because I wanted to be a part of making the community in Birmingham and Alabama stronger. I also want to give back to the Birmingham that I have grown to love since moving here for college a few years ago.
2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I would love to be able to gain experience in a variety of service fields, which is a unique and special characteristic of Birmingham’s YWCA AmeriCorps Program.
3. What will your service focus on for the 2019-20 program year? During this program year, my service will focus on helping students (i.e. juniors and seniors in underserved communities) with ACT prep, college readiness skills, and other areas, motivating and guiding them through the pre-college process.
4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? Graduate school, hopefully. I’m still tailoring my direct plans, but full steam forward.
Thank you for your service, McKenna!
