Member Spotlight: Nissa Muhammad, Building Communities, Bettering Lives Member

Meet Nisaa Muhammad, currently serving as Health Relationships AmeriCorps Member with the YWCA Healthy Relationships Program, a service site of the Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program.

1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I have a passion for young people. I like to see them making good/healthy choices that enable them to live full, happy lives.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I am hoping to build on my passion and love of serving young people. I’m hoping to inspire and motivate the next generation so they may always know their worth and hoping they’ll never settle.

3. What will your service focus on for the 2019-20 program year? During this program year, my service will focus on empowering middle/high school students to have healthy relationships; whether platonic or romantic. My focus is to give them the knowledge of what is healthy relationship-wise so they never put themselves in harm’s way.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? After AmeriCorps, I will finish my educational journey and graduate with my BA in Psychology. I would love to serve another year with AmeriCorps and take what I learn to pursue opening my own shelter for homeless families.
