Member Spotlight: Rachel Stoves, Building Communities, Bettering Lives Member

Meet Rachel Stoves, currently serving as YMCA AmeriCorps Member with the YMCA Northeast Branch, a partnering agency of the Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program.

1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I wanted to give back to my community. I enjoy serving and thought that this would be the perfect fit for me.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? Something that I would like to get out of this service opportunity would to be more knowledge on how to continue to better my community.

3. What will your service focus on for the 2019-20 program year? During this program year, my service will focus on children afterschool. I will be helping them with homework but also teaching them math, science, and writing. I will be building their knowledge and helping them learn.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? After AmeriCorps I plan on going back to school to get my master’s. I also want to get an internship with the CDC or FEMA.
