Member Spotlight: Allafi Amin Bashier, Teach For America-AL Member
Meet Allafi Amin Bashier, 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Discovery Science Teacher, currently serving with Jones Valley Middle School, a service site of Teach For America-AL AmeriCorps program.
1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I believe that to transform a community, everyone needs to passionately serve. I, therefore, want to invest my skill and passion to serve the younger generations so that they can develop critical thinking and be agents of transformation in their communities, as well as in the state level.
2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I want to develop professionally as a leader, and in the process get to know my community needs, and continually be part of the solution through collective efforts.
3. What will your service focus on for the 2019-20 program year? During this program year, my service will focus on maximizing student achievement by having them grow 3 points on the ACT.
4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? Right now, I know that I will continue to serve in the classroom. I believe that the greatest needs of every community would effectively be addressed if every younger generation is exposed to equitable education that help them approach societal issues with critical thinking.
Thank you for your service, Allafi!
