Member Spotlight: Aidan Blecke, Teach for America Alabama AmeriCorps Program
Meet Aidan Blecke, Spanish Teacher, currently serving with Selma High School, a service site of the Teach for America Alabama AmeriCorps program.
1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps?
I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because I wanted to do something good someplace new. I knew that teaching was something I enjoyed when I did it in a slightly less structured format (tutoring), and I wanted to take that thing that I had fun with and use it to effect positive change in the world. I saw AmeriCorps as an opportunity to accomplish my passion.
2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? The biggest thing that I want to get out of this service opportunity is firsthand experience with education. I want to know how school systems work inside and out. Also, I want to have valid, well-informed opinions on what we can do to change them for the better. 3. What will your service focus on for the 2021-2022 program year?
During this program year, I will focus on facilitating Spanish speaking lessons and understanding the Spanish language to students at a rural Alabama High School. 4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? After my program year with AmeriCorps, I am not entirely sure about my next steps. Currently, I want to stay in education and continue teaching at my current placement school, but things might change. As part of my Teach for America service, I will serve with my placement school for at least another year, so I will have plenty of time to find out!
Thank you for your service Aidan!
