Member Spotlight: Alaina McFadden, Mobile Baykeeper AmeriCorps Program

Meet Alaina McFadden, Environmental Educator, currently serving with Mobile Baykeeper as part of the AmeriCorps program

1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps?

I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because I thought it would be an opportunity to gain experience in the environmental field. This experience will allow me to help make a difference and give back to the community. Also, I will get the chance to protect, restore our natural water sources, teach and guide our local community to protect and care about the environment as well.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity?

This opportunity to serve in environmental education outreach with AmeriCorps will allow me to gain professional experience and improve my skill sets in the environmental field. I will continue to build on my leadership, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. This program allows me to meet new people and create lifelong connections while doing my part in protecting our coastal habitats.

3. What will your service focus on for the 2021-2022 program year?

My service will focus on environmental education outreach to the community and local schools. I will be responsible for creating and updating educational materials, environmental advocates, and strong relationships with the community. These actions will allow me to provide the correct knowledge and tools to help individuals in the community succeed at protecting our local water sources.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps?

After this program, I would like to pursue a career in Coastal Conservation, focused on Education Outreach. I will attend graduate school and expand my knowledge on conservation education, specifically estuary environments climate changes.

Thank you for your service Alaina!
