Member Spotlight: Ashley Bosarge, Student Conservation Association AmeriCorps Program
Meet Ashley Bosarge, SCA Member, currently serving in Mobile, AL, a service site of the AmeriCorps Conservation Corps AmeriCorps Program.
Members protect, restore, and enhance public lands and waters through activities like invasive plant removal, trail creation, and native planting along coastal Alabama habitats.
What will your service focus on this year? Environmental restoration, primarily in invasive species management and fire break maintenance in preparation for prescribed burns.
What inspired you to serve as an AmeriCorps member? I wanted a career change to environmental conservation without getting a different degree. The programs seems like it will give me the training, experience, certifications, and assistance needed to do so.
What advice would you give someone interested in serving with your AmeriCorps State program? Find out if there are jobs in the field you want in the location you want that don’t require a science degree if you don’t have one. If you’re staying local, ask the program for contacts and networking opportunities.
