Member Spotlight: Dakota Bilbrey, Mobile Baykeeper AmeriCorps Program
Meet Dakota Bilbrey, AmeriCorps Patrol Member currently serving with the Mobile Baykeeper, a service site of the Baykeeper Patrol AmeriCorps program.
1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps?
I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because I wanted to gain additional experience in my field as I complete my master's degree. I wish to give back to my community AmeriCorps has allowed me to do so. I look forward to developing new connections and a professional network during my time of service!
2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity?
I want to gain professional experience dealing with environmental issues and connecting the community's various industries to push environmental stewardship.
3. What will your service focus on for the 2021-2022 program year?
My service will research local pollution problems to improve water quality, reduce impacts from stormwater, sewer, and industrial pollution. Most of my service will consist of conducting site inspections, patrolling local waterways, investigating citizen concerns, collecting water quality samples, and documenting environmental pollution.
4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps?
After AmeriCorps, I plan to earn my master's degree in Marine Conservation and Resource Management. After completing my degree, I wish to pursue a career in habitat restoration either with a non-profit organization or with a governmental agency.
Thank you for your service Dakota!
