Member Spotlight: Carissa Grayson, AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team

Meet Corissa Grayson, AIST Member, currently serving with Greenville Middle School, a service site of the AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team AmeriCorps program.

1. What will your service focus on this year?

During this program year, my service will focus on engaging students in one-on-one instructional assistance. This will help students meet and exceed individual developmental growth targets resulting in an increase of 5% in standardized test scores in reading and math.

2. What inspired you to serve as an AmeriCorps member?

I decided to serve because it’s heartwarming to see the efforts you put into the community and to see children succeed. It lets you know any act, no matter how great or small, goes farther than you can imagine.

3. What advice would you give someone interested in serving with your AmeriCorps State program?

I would encourage anyone to be a part of the action of building and repairing the community. It is very rewarding, and you can see the change that you are a part of come to life.
