Member Spotlight: Ja'Kirra Ward, Selma Alabama AmeriCorps Program
Meet Ja'kirra Ward, Tutor, serving with the Valley Creek Community Center, a service site of the Selma AmeriCorps Program
1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps?
I was motivated to serve a fourth year with the AmeriCorps program because of the meaningful service impact.
2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity?
I want to gain more professional and valuable life skills. Also, I want to be more career and management ready for my life after my service year.
3. What will your service focus on for the 2021-2022 program year?
During this program year, my service will focus on providing students with academic skills in reading and math through tutoring.
4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps?
After receiving my Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology this December, I will secure employment as a school counselor. Also, I will pursue a Master of Social Work Degree at the University of Alabama. Upon graduation, I will seek a position in the Dallas County area. Lastly, I plan to be a helping hand to the community by assisting families in need, helping prevent child neglect and other disaster situations.
