Member Spotlight: Jennifer Fox, Teach for America Alabama AmeriCorps Program
Meet Jennifer Fox, a 7th-Grade English Language Arts Teacher in Shades Valley School, a service site of the Teach for America Alabama AmeriCorps program.
1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps?
I was motivated to join the AmeriCorps program to change the opportunity gap. I believe every child deserves a quality education. Furthermore, I want to be a part of the movement of incredible people to ensure that happens.
2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity?
I hope to see my students grow emotionally. I hope to help them expand their capacity for empathy and kindness to others. At the end of this year, it is my goal to see measurable improvement in my student's abilities to understand and control their emotions and their reactions to emotional behavior from others.
3. What will your service focus on for the 2021-2022 program year?
During this program year, my service will focus on helping my students become academically successful and assist them in discovering their purpose and steps for them to achieve their goals. Also, my students will leave my classroom with a renewed and invigorated sense of self-worth and the knowledge that they are capable of miraculous feats.
4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps?
I am currently planning to stay in the classroom for 5-10 years before pursuing additional education. Also, I want to become qualified to accept a position in educational administration, such as a principal of a middle or high school.
Thank you for your service Jennifer!
