Member Spotlight: Kenterri Ellis, Selma Alabama AmeriCorps Program

Meet Kenterri Ellis, Tutor, currently serving with the Valley Creek Community center, a service site of the Selma AmeriCorps program.

1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps?

I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because I want to give back to the community, assist students and others. The idea of helping someone change their life would also improve mine in some way. In addition, providing service and meeting a variety of people and cultures is a learning experience for me.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity?

As a college student, the computer skills that I will learn are essential for my future life experiences. Sharing my skills with others through this service opportunity will help enhance my ability to assist others in the community.

3. What will your service focus on for the 2021-2022 program year?

As a fourth-year AmeriCorps member, my service will focus on helping K-12 students with various academic skills while providing mentorship along the way.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps?

After AmeriCorps, I plan to continue my education by pursuing my Associate in Science degree. Also, I want to continue in the education field of tutoring and providing mentorship to students as a career path.

Thank you for your service Kenterri!
