Member Spotlight: Meet Ethan Dickey, Student Conservation Association AmeriCorps Program.
Meet Ethan Dickey, SCA Member, currently serving in Mobile, AL, a service site of the AmeriCorps Conservation Corps AmeriCorps Program.
1. What will your service focus on this year?
This year my service will focus on preparing land parcels for prescribed fire, participating in prescribed fire operations, and maintaining equipment required to safely conduct fire operations. I will also focus on building maintenance, invasive species removal, and other land management objectives.
2. What inspired you to serve as an AmeriCorps member?
I was inspired to serve to learn more about my passion for prescribed fire management. I also wanted to learn more about fire behavior in the environment and how different aspects of the regional ecology would respond.
3. What advice would you give someone interested in serving with your AmeriCorps State program?
It is important to ask questions and be inquisitive. The members you will be serving with have a lot of knowledge that can be passed down. If you are unsure of anything or if you want to expand what you already know, do not hesitate. Adjusting to the program may be rough but as time progresses it becomes smother.
Thank you for your service, Ethan!
