Member Spotlight: Nathaniel Carr, Mobile Baykeeper AmeriCorps Program

Meet Nathaniel Carr, Environmental Educator, currently serving with the Mobile Baykeeper, a partnering agency of the AmeriCorps program.

1.) What motivated you to join AmeriCorps?

I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because I feel it is important to serve my local community. I aim to understand what environmentalism looks like on a day-to-day ground level and see the full impact of any future policies I hope to enact one day.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity?

I want to connect myself to the Mobile Bay community and strengthen my understanding of my local Mobile Bay environment. Also, I want to learn more about the different strategies and approaches nonprofits to take to operate efficiently and maximize their output budgeting.

3. What will your service focus on for the 2021-2022 program year?

During this program year, my service will educate myself and my local community on environmental issues. I will reach out to local schools, youth groups, and local adult community members to equip them with the knowledge they need to understand the watershed and the quality of their local water systems.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps?

I aim to serve in the US Military in the intelligence sector after AmeriCorps. After this, I will hopefully attend a graduate school where I will focus on either International Diplomacy or Environmental sociology so that I can hopefully pursue a career not only preserving environments but ensuring that the communities I serve with can remain healthy and happy in their environments.

Thank you for your service Nathaniel!
