Member Spotlight: Shaliyah Hamilton, AmeriCorps Instructional Support Teams

Meet Shaliyah Hamilton, AIST Member, currently serving with Greenville Elementary School, a service site of the AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team AmeriCorps program.

AIST members assist students in pre-school - 12th grade in all Butler County Schools (McKenzie, Georgiana & Greenville). AIST partners with community projects & participates in National Service Days throughout the year.

What inspired you to serve as an AmeriCorps member? What inspired to me to return to serve a second term with AIST was the joy I got from working and helping children in my first term. Serving as an AmeriCorps member is helping me to become a teacher.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps? To continue a third term with AmeriCorps and finish college.

Shaliyah Hamilton is currently serving her second term of service starting at McKenzie School and ending her service at Greenville Middle School. She graduated from Greenville High in 2020 and has earned 48 credit hours from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College. Shaliyah has a son, works a part-time job at Wal-Mart, and has her own dessert catering business KASH's SWEET TOOTH. She is going to re-apply for the 2024-2025 AIST program year.

Shaliyah, thank you for your service!
