Member Spotlight: Shanell Dock, Student Conservation Association AmeriCorps Program

Meet Shanell Dock, SCA Member, currently serving in Mobile, AL, a service site of the AmeriCorps Conservation Corps AmeriCorps Program.

Members will protect, restore, and enhance public lands and waters through activities like invasive plant removal, trail creation, and native planting along coastal Alabama habitats.

What will your service focus on this year?  My service this season is focused on invasive plant removal, boardwalk repair, erosion control, trail maintenance, fire line maintenance, and animal habitat repair.

What inspired you to serve as an AmeriCorps member?  I was inspired to serve as an AmeriCorps member because I believed in the Corps' commitment to conservation and restoration of the environment. I have a degree in Environmental Science and upon graduation, I wanted to serve with an organization that aligned with my belief in protecting and being of service to the environment.

What advice would you give someone interested in serving with your AmeriCorps State program? I would tell someone interested in serving with my AmeriCorps State program that they need to keep an open mind and be able to see the bigger picture in how our work is not only valuable but helpful for the environment.

Shanell, thank you for your service!
